An interview with Darani

Q- How has the streetwear industry evolved since you first started in 2021, and how has your brand adapted to these changes over the years?

A- The industry has evolved since I launched in 2021 into much more of a creators market, in the past 3 years there has been big growth in various blogs and vlogs on social media/ Youtube from customers 'shopping hauls' 'brands to watch' out for and platforms for small independent businesses to promote. I think a big adaptation is biting the bullet and doing something for the good of your business even if personally you do not like it. We are now seeing the evolution of AI and what that looks like across the industry, what departments it can strive in and what not so much.

Q- What inspired you to start your streetwear brand, and what sets your designs apart from others in the market?

A- Not really sure what inspired me, always having a skate/ street background I guess, and I always liked the idea of creating something and putting it out there, I first started a clothing brand with my friend in Year 9 at school so from them always have had the flavour for it. I then had a small brand whilst at college which ultimately got me the job in the career path I had always wanted.

Q- Can you share some insights into your creative process? How do you come up with new designs and concepts for your collections?

A- I tend to have certain elements within my designs which I believe are strong and commercial so adding variations and move ons is always on my mind, learning lessons such as best and worst and other history to be able to maximise opportunities in certain product areas. A lot of it if not all is trial and error and not everything is going to work or always sell out 100% but it is that experience which helps build a clear understanding. There are also other design concept ideas but it is important to not get lost in various design hand writing to be able to have a clear, cohesive brand.

Q- Streetwear is often influenced by cultural trends and movements. What often inspires you?

A- I am inspired by everything around me, I could leave the front door and see a tree with various shades of green and then be inspired to do a camo in similar tones. Inspiration has no limits and can be found anywhere. Trends will always have a level of influence as well as events such as the world cup or Olympics.
